let’s call it a vote

Posted by mambopalace on January 30, 2005

miss me? of course ya did!

a look around the news shows that the iraqis voted in record (i.e. more than 12 guys in baghdad) numbers. despite repeated attempts by the media to both play down any significance of this event or to find as many iraqis as possible who would complain about something, they could not deny the images of iraqis walking to the polls: guys in wheelchairs, women carrying babies, young men. sistani made it a religious imperative to vote. that guy knows what it’s gonna take to get rid of the americans. for an inside look at one iraqi view check out iraq the model.

i don’t know how anyone can look at those people going to the polls for the first time and not feel a deep pride in the better parts of human nature. given their druthers, people will pick freeedom. man is it gonna get ugly for a while now though. especially with zarqawi’s mindless, “we hate democracy, it’s bad, bad, bad,” rant a few days before the election. i was convinced that was a psy-op run by rummy’s deep cover unit. could zarqawi really be that stupid? i suppose maybe. but even so, it contradicts obl’s statements. a civil war within al qaeda, or the fact that those arrests reported prior to the election were more effective than reported. could be that they got abu musbad and he recorded that little ditty with a baretta at his temple.

deep thoughts for a slow sunday. my advice, smile and say hallelujah while ya can.
